The growing season has started

As my eyes start to see the daffodils starting to show their little bulbous heads and the snowdrops lighting up the area underneath the willow tree and hope that it will not be too long before the crocuses start to come into flower. These after all are fabulous flowers for bees.

Apart from that it is the start of my own growing season in the garden and on the allotment. Thanks to Seedparade I have got lots of different seeds this year and have already starting sowing. Crazy isn’t it how time flies. I cannot believe it is the 2nd June already. Today was a fantastic morning and I got up early to check on the bees to make sure they were alive and ultimately, that there were still there. Apparently a swarm of bees is still likely to swarm again if they don’t find the new location suitable. Fortunately they were still there and a quick look at the hive entrance showed them to be more active than normal probably due to the fantastic morning we were having already. A garden update

A bit of an up and down week this week. The weather has been amazing which has caused all manner of problems with watering. The first casualty of this were the runner beans – although not sure if this was the late and hard frost we have had recently as well. My pumpkins and squash were also casualties and the sweetcorn wasn’t looking particularly great this morning either. I just don’t think I was watering them enough. Read the rest of this entry »

I have had this feeling now for some time that all this could be completely hot air. I have created a lovely blog (well I think so!) and twitter pages, I have commented on forums sites about being a beginner beekeeper and even gone so far as to order a hive – just heard news that my flat packed hive arrives on Friday, hurrah! – but there is one slight problem………where on earth am I going to get some bees from!
